Intimisme — Intimism
These are portraits of the people I live with. My wife, my children, the dog, the rooms we move through. I have been painting them for years, and they keep changing — children grow, furniture moves, light falls differently in winter.
Like Vuillard painted his mother and sister in Parisian apartments, I paint those closest to me. Not as documentation, but as inquiry: how does intimacy become form? How does a household become a composition?
Some works are close studies — hands, a face turning away, a gesture that says what an expression cannot. Others are whole rooms, where someone is present without being visible.
The question underneath is simple: what does it look like when nobody is posing?
